Unapologetic

The name "Unapologetic" reflects its central theme: living fully and authentically as a SGL (same gender loving) Black man is not a destination but an ongoing daily practice. Its core purpose is to make this audience feel seen and provide culturally grounded, practical insights that mainstream self-development content typically ignores. It directly addresses experiences like the identity tax of code-switching, navigating faith communities that may not affirm them, the exhaustion of being the only one in the room, and the particular isolation of being high-achieving while SGL. The newsletter is organized around six content pillars that mirror the six phases of the Bridge Framework™ coaching methodology: Clarity & Direction, Productivity & Energy, Habits & Consistency, Accountability & Community, Identity/Wholeness & Freedom, and Self-Care & Burnout Prevention.

What are you planting this spring?

Unapologetic April 2, 2026 Brother, April is here. And with it comes the particular energy of spring — that quiet pressure to grow, to open, to let something in after the long discipline of winter. I've been thinking about planting. Not metaphorically, exactly. Literally: the act of deciding what goes in the ground. Because planting is an act of faith. You commit to a seed before there's any evidence it will become what you intend. You tend something that can't tell you yet whether it's...

Unapologetic March 31, 2026 Hi brother, We close March today. Before you move into April, I need you to do something most men never do. Stop. Not permanently. Not for long. Just long enough to see where you actually are. Because here's what I've watched happen to men who do this work seriously: They keep moving. They keep building. They keep their heads down in the gradual — and they walk right through the suddenly without recognizing it. They're looking for a moment. A clear before and...

Unapologetic March 24, 2026 Hi brother, You've been adding all month. A practice. A structure. An accountability witness. An architecture for April. Good. That work matters and it's sticking. But today I want to talk about subtraction. Because here's what I've watched happen to men who do everything right and still can't receive the suddenly when it arrives: They're full. Not full of bad things. Full of old things. Things that used to serve them that they never put down. Things they've been...

Unapologetic March 17, 2026 Hi brother, Let me tell you about two men. Both committed to the same practice in February. Same intention. Same understanding of why it matters. Same desire to show up differently. One of them is still doing it. One of them isn't. The difference isn't motivation. It isn't discipline. It isn't character. It's architecture. The Story We Tell About Inconsistency When men fall off a practice, they tell themselves a specific story. I'm just not a consistent person.I...

Unapologetic March 10, 2026 Hi brother, I need to talk to you about something most coaches won't say out loud. There's a phase in this work that feels like nothing is happening. No momentum. No visible progress. No signal that any of it is working. You're still showing up. Still doing the practice. Still choosing yourself in small moments throughout the day. But the results you were expecting haven't materialized. The suddenly feels further away than it did last month. This phase has a name:...

Unapologetic March 3, 2026 Hi brother, You planted in February. Maybe you’re not sure it took. Maybe you’re looking around for evidence and not finding much. Here’s what I need you to understand before we go any further into March: Growth shows up in your body before it shows up in your life. Before the promotion. Before the conversation. Before the relationship shifts. Your body gets the news first. Most men miss it because they’re looking in the wrong place. They’re scanning their...

Unapologetic February 3, 2026 Hi Reader, In 1978, futurist Roy Amara made an observation that explains exactly why you're struggling right now: We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run. This isn't just about technology. It's about your unapologetic journey. The Timeline You're Fighting You stopped code-switching at work three weeks ago. You expected relief. Instead: Still exhausting. Still uncomfortable. Still wondering...

What is your "perfection" actually buying you?

Unapologetic January 13, 2026 Hi Reader, The Transaction I was talking to a brother recently who named something so clearly I had to share it with you. He’s the most accomplished in his family—the one everyone looks to. But he admitted that his drive for perfection is actually a calculation. He tries to be so flawless in his career and status so that when people learn he’s SGL, they’ll say: “Well… at least he’s successful.” He’s using his success to offset his humanity. Does that sound...

Purposeful Pathways July 9, 2025 Dear Reader, I had a conversation with a friend last weekend that stopped me in my tracks. “I’m so behind,” she said, talking about her friend’s early retirement, her sister’s dream vacation lifestyle, her former colleague’s successful consulting business. “Everyone else has it figured out, and I’m just… stuck.” She’s 62, has built a solid career over decades, raised successful children, and is actively working toward meaningful goals for this next chapter....

Purposeful Pathways May 21, 2025 Hey Purposeful Pathway Navigators, How often do you sit down to tackle an important task, only to find yourself immediately pulled in a dozen different directions? A notification pings. An email subject line screams for attention. Your social media feed beckons. Before you know it, an hour has vanished, and that important task — the one that truly aligns with your purpose — is still sitting there, untouched. Does this sound familiar? You’re not alone. We often...
