The “Offset” Strategy

Unapologetic

Hi Reader,

The Transaction

I was talking to a brother recently who named something so clearly I had to share it with you.

He’s the most accomplished in his family—the one everyone looks to. But he admitted that his drive for perfection is actually a calculation. He tries to be so flawless in his career and status so that when people learn he’s SGL, they’ll say:

“Well… at least he’s successful.”

He’s using his success to offset his humanity. Does that sound familiar?

The Reality Check

I want to ask you a few questions—not for me, but for you to sit with:

  • The Connection: When you’re in those spaces where you feel you have to be “150% perfect” just to be accepted… what does that constant “editing” do to your energy by the time you get home?
  • The Problem: If you were to stop being the “perfect one” for just a week… what are you afraid would actually happen to those relationships?
  • The Consequence: If you keep using your accomplishments to “buy” your worth, and you stay on this path for another 2 or 3 years… what does that do to your spirit?

The Cost of “At Least”

When you live for the “at least,” your success becomes a bribe. You can’t actually enjoy your wins because they aren’t for you—they are for your defense team.

You’re exhausted because you’re playing a character in your own life. And the character has to be perfect, or the whole show falls apart.

Phase 1: Dropping the Shield

Phase 1 of being Unapologetic is realizing that your excellence is a gift, not a ransom payment.

You don’t owe “perfection” to anyone in exchange for being who you are. But here is the real question:

How much longer can you realistically keep performing at this level before something gives?

For You This Week

Don’t try to fix it yet. Just notice.

Reply and tell me: If you didn’t have to be “perfect” to be “accepted,” what’s the first thing you would stop doing today?

See you Thursday,

Ernest

P.S. - I’m looking to reach 100 brothers who are tired of paying the ‘Perfection Tax.’ If this email made you think of a friend who is ‘carrying it all,’ please forward this to him.

Purposeful Pathways

My journey wasn’t straightforward. I’ve navigated the corporate world, chased academic accolades, and even ventured into entrepreneurship. On paper, it looked like I had it all together. But beneath the accolades and achievements, there was a quest for deeper meaning, a longing to understand my true purpose. That path led me here, to you.Why am I a life coach? Because I believe in transformation. I’ve experienced it, from the trials of burnout to the triumphs of breakthroughs. I’ve seen the power of understanding one’s strengths, and the profound impact of reshaping our thoughts, words, and actions. But more than that, I’ve learned that our deepest growth comes from connection—real, human connection. My newsletter is designed to share our shared journey to becoming whole and engaging in our life's passion. I believe we can learn so much from each other's journeys, from the victories and the vulnerabilities. Ready to start your transformation? Unapologetic March 24, 2026 Hi brother, You've been adding all month. A practice. A structure. An accountability witness. An architecture for April. Good. That work matters and it's sticking. But today I want to talk about subtraction. Because here's what I've watched happen to men who do everything right and still can't receive the suddenly when it arrives: They're full. Not full of bad things. Full of old things. Things that used to serve them that they never put down. Things they've been...

Unapologetic March 17, 2026 Hi brother, Let me tell you about two men. Both committed to the same practice in February. Same intention. Same understanding of why it matters. Same desire to show up differently. One of them is still doing it. One of them isn't. The difference isn't motivation. It isn't discipline. It isn't character. It's architecture. The Story We Tell About Inconsistency When men fall off a practice, they tell themselves a specific story. I'm just not a consistent person.I...

Unapologetic March 10, 2026 Hi brother, I need to talk to you about something most coaches won't say out loud. There's a phase in this work that feels like nothing is happening. No momentum. No visible progress. No signal that any of it is working. You're still showing up. Still doing the practice. Still choosing yourself in small moments throughout the day. But the results you were expecting haven't materialized. The suddenly feels further away than it did last month. This phase has a name:...
